Ethiopia and covid

I know Covid-19 has affected you. It has affected our family in countless ways from work, sports, school, seeing friends, seeing family, etc. etc.

But one way it hasn't changed is the fact that I still eat every day. In fact, what I'm hearing from a lot of people is that we're eating more than normal because of boredom!

This is not the case for our families we work with in Southern Ethiopia. For our friends over there, what you make in a day is what allows you to put food on the table. The problem is that everyone is out of work. People prepare food in their houses to sell to people in the market but the markets are all closed and there is no one in the streets to sell to anymore. The luxury I have of 'dipping into my savings' isn't something they have over there.

It's heartbreaking to think that our feeding program was just starting to hit it's stride. Kids were being well fed which gave them more brain power to do well in school. Now schools are closed just like here. So now the kids aren't eating and as you may have guessed, there's no online learning over there.

Fortunately for us, the Yiddidiya school is ran by people with giant-sized hearts. They are doing everything they can to provide food for these families so they can eat once a day. (Allow that to sink in...one meal a day).

We had a Facebook fundraiser and you gave like crazy. We raised over $2000 which will go toward these families getting some food. Still not enough food to truly thrive, but enough to survive for now. Our hope is that a year from now they will be thriving because of your continued giving.

Here's a video of some of the families and school administrators saying 'thank you'. I really hope you enjoy it.
